Although the fashion industry is characterized as a “women’s industry,” only 12.5%* of apparel and fashion companies CEO’s are women. This leads us to ask an important question—why are women disproportionately represented in leadership positions within the fashion industry?
There are many reasons— from societal constraints to unconscious bias, the list goes on and on. Since we cannot single-handedly change upsetting societal norms, it’s important for each of us to do our part in reaching that 50%-50% figure we would all love to see one day.
With that in mind, we are launching a new “Women We Admire” series, spotlighting women leading among the front ranks of the fashion industry around the world. Using our platform and social following we will share an empowering story from some of our favorite women in the industry to support each other and move the needle.
Who are we at Edite? We’re part of the 12.5%. We’re a round table of strong business women paving the way in the showroom business. Now it’s time to invite more guests to our table and hear their stories. Here’s to strong women-may we praise them, may we know them, may we be them.
